2027: Jonathan poses threat to Tinubu’s second term, says Sani

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, has said that Former President Goodluck Jonathan will truncate the chances of President Bola Tinubu if he contests in the forthcoming presidential election.

Speaking on Arise Television on Friday, Sani argued that Jonathan is a threat to Tinubu, especially because of the votes coming from the South-South, where the former president hails from, and the bulk votes from the North.

He noted that Jonathan is a popular and loved figure in the North, stressing that the alleged failure of the administration of Former President Muhammadu Buhari earned Jonathan respect in the hearts of northerners.

He said, “The return of former President Goodluck Jonathan would affect the president’s chances at a second term. For instance, the president is now preparing the South-South. He’s preparing these states (Edo, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers) for himself. The coming of Jonathan will upstage his efforts, as the south-south will rally strongly to support him. They simply cannot sacrifice their son for any other consideration.”

Furthermore, the politician said, “Goodluck is a very popular person in the North. He was initially unpopular because most northerners believed he was behind the Boko Haram insurgency but when Buhari took over and his lack of performance, the people began to see that it was not the fault of Jonathan, it was an issue beyond him. The incident that broke the camel’s back was when Bello Turji burnt some northerners alive in a bus, then they declared that Buhari was incapable.”
