The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Abuja Operations Office has taken a significant step towards promoting a culture of preparedness and strengthening community capacity by certifying a new cohort of NEMA/NYSC Emergency Management Vanguard (EMV) trainees.
The event, held on November 4, 2025, recognised the successful completion of an intensive Basic Disaster Management Training program by young corps members.
Delivering a keynote address on behalf of the Head of the Abuja Operations Office, Mr. Zakari Abubakar, Mrs. Fatima M. Sani congratulated the awardees on their achievement, emphasizing that the training had equipped them with essential knowledge and practical skills to support disaster management efforts and enhance community resilience.
“Your achievement today is not just a personal success but a meaningful contribution to our national safety architecture,” Mrs. Sani stated, according to a statement posted on NEMA’s social media accounts on Thursday.
“I urge you to integrate the principles of disaster risk reduction into your everyday lives and become ambassadors of preparedness in your communities. The knowledge you have gained must trickle down to the grassroots,” she added.
Mrs. Sani further encouraged the corps members to consider joining the NEMA Volunteers Scheme after completing their national service, highlighting that their continued engagement would greatly strengthen the agency’s public sensitization and outreach efforts.
The formal presentation of certificates to the participants was a highlight of the occasion, recognizing their commitment and newly acquired competencies. This initiative reflects the sustained collaboration between NEMA and the NYSC, underscoring NEMA’s dedication to empowering young Nigerians as proactive agents in building a safer and disaster-ready nation.
