In response to the growing diplomatic strain between Nigeria and the U.S., the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), a leading umbrella group for Nigeria’s Muslim community, has advocated for a diplomatic solution, encouraging President Bola Tinubu to engage in constructive dialogue with the U.S. administration to address the concerns raised by President Donald Trump.

The Secretary of the group in Jigawa State, Muhammad Babangida, called for diplomatic action in a statement released in Dutse on Friday.

He stated that “Jama’atu Nasril Islam in Jigawa expresses deep concern over the recent statement by U.S. President Donald Trump, which was based on misinformation regarding the treatment of Christians in Nigeria.”

Babangida urged Nigerians to stand together in unity, engage in fervent prayer, and work hard to create a brighter future for the country.

He added that “these expressed threats of military action against Nigeria necessitated us to call for a diplomatic approach and constructive dialogue by engaging with the U.S. president and the American Congress.

“This is to highlight the complexities of the security situation in Nigeria and efforts being made to protect all citizens, regardless of faith, and the government’s commitments to address the root cause of violence and security challenges in the country.”

The group’s secretary urged President Tinubu to expedite action by leading a high-powered delegation to engage the U.S. administration for frank dialogue about the situation in the country.

Babangida added, “For the success of all these efforts, Nigerians must stand firm in unity, pray and work sincerely towards a better nation, while demanding that the government intensify efforts to fight insecurity and assure the safety of all citizens.”

He prayed that Almighty Allah would grant Nigerian leaders the strength and wisdom to approach the situation earnestly and hoped that citizens would support the government in solving the nation’s problems.
