Bashir Ahmad, former special assistant on digital communications to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to invite Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portugal national team to play a match at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Ahmad, in a post he made via his X account (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, noted that he was speaking on behalf of millions of Nigerian football fans.

The former presidential aide highlighted the immense popularity of the former Real Madrid star, with an estimated 60-75% of the country’s football enthusiasts identifying as Ronaldo fans.

The proposed match is expected to generate significant enthusiasm and fervor among Nigerians, providing a welcome distraction and fostering a sense of national pride.

“We would be absolutely delighted if you could bring Ronaldo and the Portugal national team to play at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja. This single gesture would electrify the country, unite supporters across regions and strengthen the excitement ahead of the 2027 general election,” Ahmad stated in the petition.
