Obi consoles Super Eagles after World Cup playoff loss

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on the Super Eagles to stay strong and focused despite Nigeria’s heartbreaking exit from the 2026 World Cup playoffs.

Nigeria’s World Cup dreams were shattered as the Super Eagles fell 4-3 on penalties to DR Congo, following a 1-1 draw after extra time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Sunday, marking their second consecutive World Cup absence.

Obi took to his official X account on Monday to express his appreciation for the Super Eagles’ dedication and sacrifice, acknowledging the team’s efforts despite their heartbreaking exit.

“Our dear Super Eagles, I know how deeply yesterday’s outcome weighs on each of you.

“When you wear the green and white, you carry the heartbeat of the whole nation, and I acknowledge the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment you put into every match. But let this moment not break your spirit. Great teams are defined by their response to adversity,” Obi said.

Obi encouraged the Super Eagles to regroup and rebuild, saying, “What matters now is how we stand, regroup, and rebuild with even greater discipline, focus, and preparedness. I’m confident you can rise stronger.”

“Do not let today overshadow the greatness of tomorrow. The Eagle never bows its head; it lifts its wings. Keep your heads high and stay committed. Nigeria believes in you, and together, we will soar again. Keep soaring, Super Eagles.”
