The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has categorically denied reports circulating in some quarters claiming that the commission has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election.
INEC, in a statement signed by Adedayo Oketola, the commission’s media adviser on Friday, emphasised that these reports are “false and misleading,” stressing that no such timetable or schedule has been issued.
INEC reiterated its commitment to operating within the provisions of the law.
According to Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, INEC is required to publish a notice of election not later than 360 days before the date appointed for a general election.
INEC urged the public and media to disregard the fake reports and rely on official channels for accurate updates.
The commission’s established and verified platforms will communicate the timetable and schedule when released.
“INEC assures Nigerians that the official Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election will be released in due course, in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and the Electoral Act, 2022. When released, it will be communicated through the Commission’s established and verified channels,” the statement read.
This clarification comes as Nigerians await the electoral body’s next move, with the 2027 general election approaching.
