The Nigerian Army has officially commenced the construction of an additional training depot in Amasiri-Edda, Ebonyi State, as part of efforts to strengthen national security and expand training capacity across the country.
The development was made public in a statement by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director Army Public Relations, on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the groundbreaking ceremony which held on Tuesday, was performed by the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Dr. Francis Nwifuru, who expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General W Shaibu, for approving the project.
“The facility would enhance recruitment opportunities and promote increased participation of youths from Ebonyi State and the South-East region in serving their fatherland through the Nigerian Army,” Governor Nwifuru said.
Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Oluremi Fadairo commended the host communities for their cooperation and stated that the depot aligns with the President’s vision for equitable distribution of military infrastructure and inclusive national representation.
“The establishment of the additional training depot aligns with the vision of the President and Commander-in-Chief to ensure equitable distribution of military infrastructure and inclusive national representation within the Armed Forces,” Major General Fadairo said.
He added, “The depot would provide increased opportunities for youths in the South-East to enlist in the Nigerian Army and serve the nation with pride.”
The ceremony featured the formal handover of land documents and the symbolic laying of foundation blocks by the Governor and the COAS representative.
This new depot brings the total number of Nigerian Army depots to three, demonstrating the Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while expanding its training infrastructure to meet evolving national security demands.
