Lagos driver dies as buses collide

A crash involving a TATA bus and a mini bus happened at the Independence Tunnel on Ikorodu Road, Maryland, leaving the mini bus driver dead.

The incident was disclosed in a video uploaded by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.

LASTMA disclosed that a tow truck is at the scene for evacuation, with its Rescue and Recovery Team handling vehicle removal and traffic control.

“A multiple road crash involving a TATA bus and a mini bus occurred at Independent Tunnel inward Maryland . The incident resulted in the death of the mini bus driver.

“Tow truck already at the scene for evacuation. LASTMA Rescue & Recovery Team at the scene for vehicle removal and traffic control,” the agency stated.

Also, LASTMA confirmed that transloading operations are ongoing following the fall of drums on the roadway at the Independence Tunnel en route to Ojota.

“The transloading of the drums that fell on the road at the Independence Tunnel en route to Ojota is underway, and our personnel are strategically positioned to ensure that traffic is unhindered,” the statement added.

Traffic management officials said they are continuing to monitor the situation as evacuation and recovery operations progress.

Recall that six persons were confirmed dead, while two others sustained injuries in a road crash that occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, near the NASFAT junction, Ogun State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun Sector Command, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to our correspondent.

According to the FRSC, the accident involved a Mazda commercial bus ad a Volvo truck along the busy section of the expressway.
