Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has revealed why he paid a visit to President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday.
Governor Makinde who arrived at the Aso Rock Villa around 3:30 p.m., was quick to dismiss any political undertones in his interview with journalists after the meeting.
The governor stated that he went to discuss “some governance issues” with the president.
Makinde, who is a leader of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said President Tinubu is not only the President of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) but the President of all Nigerians.
“Well, the President is the President of Nigeria, not the President of the APC, and we’re talking about governance here,” Makinde said. “So I came to discuss with the President some governance issues, basically.”
The meeting comes amid ongoing political realignments, as key stakeholders begin strategic consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Earlier, Makinde, alongside Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, visited the president at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Governor Mutfwang recently defected from the PDP to the APC, joining other opposition figures who have crossed over to the ruling party.
Thursday marked his first official engagement with President Tinubu since his defection.
President Tinubu has in recent months conducted a series of engagements with governors across party lines, signaling his commitment to maintaining political dialogue and fostering collaboration across states.
