The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has received a delegation of officials from the United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) led by Deputy Assistant Secretary, Ms Maggie Nardi, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The visit, which took place on Friday, was aimed at reviewing ongoing areas of cooperation and exploring avenues for strengthening institutional engagement in policing and internal security development.
According to a Saturday statement by Police Spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the INL delegation, which included Senior Advisor, Mr. Jacob Wright, and Acting Director, INL Abuja, Mr. Grane Douglas, held discussions with IGP Egbetokun on ways to enhance collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the INL.
During the meeting, Ms. Nardi reaffirmed the INL’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force through expanded specialized training programmes and the provision of modern operational equipment.
She emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration in building institutional capacity and enhancing operational effectiveness, stating that the partnership would play a critical role in improving the force’s ability to tackle emerging security challenges.
IGP Egbetokun expressed appreciation for the continued partnership and support of the INL, particularly in the area of tactical capacity development.
He highlighted the positive impact of INL-supported training initiatives on the operational performance of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), noting that the professionalism and discipline displayed by its officers in recent operations were a testament to the success of the partnership.
The Inspector-General of Police further reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening cooperation with the INL and other international partners, while adopting global best practices aimed at improving service delivery and ensuring a safer and more secure Nigeria.
He emphasized that the force would continue to prioritize training and capacity building, as well as the adoption of modern technologies, to enhance its ability to tackle emerging security threats.
The meeting was a further demonstration of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with international agencies to improve its capacity to provide effective and efficient security services to the nation.
