Kwara killings: PDP slams Tinubu govt over insecurity, demands action

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the killing of about 170 people by terrorists in Woro Community, Kwara State, describing the incident as a stark reminder of Nigeria’s growing insecurity under the Bola Tinibu administration.

The party expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the attack, emphasizing that it was a painful testament to the government’s failure to protect citizens.

In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Comrade Ini Ememobong on Thursday, the PDP conveyed its condolences to the families of the victims and criticized the government’s reactive approach to security threats.

The party noted that several community leaders had stated that notice of the impending attack was available for months, without any meaningful proactive action from the government, making the post-carnage military deployment weak, reactive, and irresponsible.

The PDP demanded an independent investigation into the security failures that led to the massacre, including why early warnings were ignored.

The party also called for immediate deployment of humanitarian assistance, medical care, and temporary shelter for displaced persons and traumatized survivors in Woro Community.

Furthermore, the PDP urged the government to convene an emergency National Security Summit involving all stakeholders to address the country’s insecurity challenges.

The party also emphasized the need for investment in community-based early warning mechanisms and ensuring that credible threats are acted upon promptly rather than ignored.

The PDP reiterated its call for a whole-of-society approach to address insecurity, including intelligence sharing between federal and state security agencies, commencement of state police, addressing the root causes of banditry and terrorism through economic development in affected regions, and regular security briefings on emerging threats.

The party expressed disappointment with the government’s ad hoc and reactionary tactics, which have proven woefully inadequate.

The PDP emphasized that the Tinubu administration’s focus on politics over the protection of lives and property is unacceptable, stating that the blood of innocent Nigerians continues to cry out for justice and competent leadership.

“The time for excuses is over; the time for action is now,” the party said.
