‪The magistrate court in Sagamu, Ogun State, has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in a crash with British professional boxer Anthony Joshua, to March 17, 2026, as proceedings continue in the case.

‪Kayode appeared before the court on Wednesday for his trial bordering on reckless driving.‬

‪During the court hearing, R.D. Kadiri, counsel for the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP), requested an adjournment, citing the need for additional time to gather evidence and witnesses for the case.

Kadiri informed the court that the police had forwarded the case file to the Ogun DPP, prompting Magistrate Olufunilayo Somefun to adjourn the case till March 17.

‪On January 20, the police’s counsel, Richard Nigiwe, requested an adjournment to enable the prosecutor duplicate the case file and submit it to the state attorney-general via the department of public prosecution for legal guidance.

‪But defence counsel Olalekan Abiodun objected, arguing that with three witnesses present, the trial should proceed.

‪However, Somefun, the magistrate, ruled that the case should be adjourned to February 25 to enable the prosecutor seek legal advice.‬

‪The magistrate ordered that the case be duplicated and sent to the Ogun attorney-general.‬

‪On December 29, 2025, the car conveying Joshua, a former world heavyweight boxing champion, and two of his close associates crashed into a stationary truck around the Sinoma area, near Sagamu, Ogun state.‬

‪The former boxing champion and three other passengers were reportedly travelling from Lagos to Sagamu when the SUV collided with a stationary truck.‬

‪While Joshua survived the incident with minor injuries, his close associates — Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami — died.‬

‪Ghami was Joshua’s long-time friend and his strength and conditioning coach, while Latif served as his personal trainer.‬

‪On December 31, 2025, the boxer was discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, after treatment for the injuries sustained.
