Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly are currently sitting to screen the commissioner nominees sent to them by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Nine nominees were escorted into the House at about 10 a.m. on Monday.
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, bowed to pressure to reappoint commissioners after sacking the first set due to a power struggle with the state assembly, largely fueled by his rift with Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The governor dissolved his cabinet in February, citing a need for restructuring.
The move follows a period of political tension in the state, with President Bola Tinubu intervening to settle the dispute between Fubara and Wike.
The governo’s decision to sack his commissioners was seen as a bid to satisfy his predecessor, but it has led to speculation about the future of his administration.
The Rivers State House of Assembly has received a list of nine commissioner-nominees from Governor Fubara, including Professor Datonye Alasia, Tonye Bellgam, and Temple Nwofor, among others. The nominees are expected to undergo screening and confirmation today.
