Police nab suspect in Ibadan Murder Case



The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Giwa Sodiq, in connection with a fatal incident in Asalu Community, Lalupon, Ibadan, that claimed the life of Kehinde, also known as “Ogo Ojigbo”.

The police acted swiftly after community authorities reported a confrontation involving a group of youths, leading to Kehinde’s death.

According to DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, Oyo Police Public Relations Officer in a Monday statement, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the community authorities reported to Iyana-Offa Division that while sleeping, they were alerted by the community security guards about a confrontation involving a group of youths within the community.”

The injured were rushed to Ojo Oluwa Hospital, Iyana-Offa, where Kehinde succumbed to his injuries.

“The police team led by the Divisional Police Officer, Supol Iyana-Offa, promptly proceeded to the scene and the hospital. Photographs were taken for documentation purposes, and one suspect, Giwa Sodiq, was arrested in connection with the incident,” Olayinka said.

Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, commended the operatives’ swift response, saying, “We appreciate the efforts of our officers in responding quickly to the distress call. We will ensure that justice is served.”

He added that efforts are underway to apprehend other suspects, and the police have deposited Kehinde’s body at Adeo State Hospital Morgue, Ring Road, Ibadan, for autopsy.

Residents were encouraged to cooperate with security agencies to ensure community safety.

CP Haruna urged residents to remain vigilant, reporting any criminal activities promptly, saying, “We appeal to members of the public with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects to come forward and assist the Police.”
