Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser on Transportation to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has resigned his appointment.

This signals his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Giwa announced his decision in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, stating that he had stepped down from his role after what he described as a period of “deep reflection and wide consultations.”

His resignation comes amid a wave of exits by political appointees across the country seeking elective offices.

The development is in line with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission for party primaries ahead of the 2027 polls.

Announcing his exit, Giwa expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, highlighting his contributions to the state’s transport reforms under the THEMES+ Agenda.

“Yesterday, I stepped down from my role as Special Adviser on Transportation to the Governor of Lagos State. It has been an honor to serve and contribute to the transformation of our transport system under the THEMES+ Agenda. I remain grateful to Mr. Governor for the trust and opportunity.”

He added that his decision to seek elective office was driven by a desire to deepen public service through legislative representation, declaring his ambition to represent Lagos Island Federal Constituency II in the House of Representatives.

Giwa noted that his next political move would focus on “stronger representation, purposeful legislation, and delivering real impact,” as he formally joins the growing list of aspirants positioning for the 2027 polls.
