Police arrest four suspected cultists, recover weapons, stolen iPhone in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested four suspected cultists over alleged assault, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms in Ilaro area of the state.

The suspects, identified as Samson John (25), Olufowora Michael (28), Odeh Samuel Ejeh (25), and Olajide Jeremiah (28), were apprehended by operatives of the Ilaro Division following a complaint lodged at the station.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the incident was reported on April 16, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m., with the victim narrating that the attack had occurred earlier that same day.

“Earlier at about 1 p.m., Samson John, in the company of six other individuals, stormed the complainant’s residence, assaulted him, threatened him with an axe, and robbed him of his mobile phone, an iPhone 14 Pro Max,” Babaseyi said on Monday.

He added that police operatives responded swiftly to the report, leading to the arrest of the suspects after preliminary investigations.

“Upon swift response and subsequent investigation by the operatives, the suspects were apprehended. During the operation, one locally made pistol, an axe, suspected charms, and the stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max were recovered from them,” he stated.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the suspects remain in custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the gang.

“The suspects are currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their prompt action and professionalism.

He reiterated the command’s stance against violent crimes, noting that “the Command maintains zero tolerance for cultism and other violent crimes and will ensure all criminal elements are decisively dealt with.”

The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities through its designated emergency lines.
