Obi, Kwankwaso alliance could redefine Nigeria’s political future, says PDP chieftain

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Ulasi, has said that the growing political alignment between Labour Party’s Peter Obi and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, signals a developing consensus-building effort that could influence Nigeria’s future elections.

Ulasi explained that both politicians enjoy strong regional followership, noting that any form of cooperation between them could significantly alter the country’s political dynamics and strengthen national unity.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, Ulasi described the emerging alignment as part of a broader effort to build bridges across regional and ethnic divides in the country.

“The Peter Obi, Kwankwaso effect is part of the process we are building up, building bridges across this country. Kwankwaso is not a name you throw out in the North neither is Peter Obi a name you throw out in the South,” he said.

He argued that if both leaders were to work together, it could reshape the electoral landscape and possibly produce a consensus candidate capable of uniting diverse political interests across the country.

“So if by the grace of God the two of them will come together and one of them emerges as president as we hope because it’s an unwritten law that the South will have eight years, the North has had eight years under Buhari, so we have four more years to complete the southern tenure,” Ulasi added.

He further described the potential Obi–Kwankwaso partnership as a politically significant development that could lead to a new phase of governance focused on development, reform, and national progress.

“The concept of Peter Obi, Kwankwaso is going to turn out to be an exciting and very strong political process that if successful, because only God knows tomorrow, will usher in a new era of development and progress for this country and that is why we are backing Peter Obi,” he said.

Ulasi also expressed confidence in Obi’s electoral prospects, suggesting that current political sentiment across the country appears favourable to him.

“From what is happening in the country, he (Peter Obi) has more than 60 percent chance of emerging as the President of this country,” he added.

The remarks come amid ongoing political realignments ahead of future elections, as key political actors explore possible coalitions and strategic partnerships across party lines.
