Tension has gripped communities in Borno State following reports that a faction of Boko Haram, known as Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS), has allegedly chosen 68 women from a larger group of abducted persons for distribution among its fighters.

The victims are said to be part of 416 individuals earlier kidnapped by the insurgents, raising fresh fears over their safety amid ongoing security challenges in the region.

The alarming development was disclosed on Thursday by the President of the Borno South Youth Alliance (BOSYA), Samaila Ibrahim Kaigama, who said he received direct communication from individuals claiming to be members of the group.

Kaigama told SaharaReporters that the contact was made at about 8:00 p.m. on April 23, when the insurgents reportedly reached out to him regarding the abductees from Ngoshe.

“During the communication, they claimed that they have selected 68 women out of the reported 416 captives and intend to distribute them among their members, similar to previous abduction cases,” Kaigama said.

He further revealed that the insurgents issued threats suggesting that some of the captives could face severe consequences depending on decisions taken internally by the group.

The report has heightened anxiety among residents and families of the victims, as concerns mount over the fate of those still in captivity.
