LASPA sole agency responsible for parking in Lagos – GM

The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has reaffirmed its exclusive mandate to manage and regulate all forms of parking across Lagos State.

The agency dismissed contrary claims by a purported local government official as illegal and misleading.

The General Manager of LASPA, Adebisi Adelabu, made the clarification in a statement signed on Monday by Dunkwu Sunday, Head of Public Affairs of the agency.

Adelabu was reacting to an unauthorised communication allegedly issued by a council parking manager, which she described as invalid and a misrepresentation of the legal framework governing parking operations in the state, particularly as it was not conveyed on official council letterhead.

She stressed that LASPA remains the only agency legally empowered to oversee parking matters, in accordance with laws enacted by the Lagos State House of Assembly and supported by a collaborative framework involving the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.

Adelabu urged registered car park operators and members of the public to disregard any such unauthorised directives, warning that attempts to intimidate or mislead licensed operators would not be tolerated.

“Any individual or group found undermining LASPA’s authority will face appropriate legal consequences,” she said.

Reiterating the agency’s role, she noted that LASPA was established to streamline parking administration, improve traffic flow, and deliver efficient, technology-driven parking solutions for residents and motorists.

She further clarified that claims suggesting local government authorities retain control over parking management are inaccurate and violate existing laws guiding the sector.

According to her, all parking-related agreements and operations must be conducted through LASPA, which works in partnership with certified and registered operators under its regulatory framework.

The LASPA boss described the actions of the council official as unlawful interference in a system designed to promote order, transparency, and public convenience, adding that the authority would take decisive legal action against any attempts to disrupt its operations.
