Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has inaugurated the Kaduna State Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) Peace and Security Committee, describing it as a major step in ongoing efforts to consolidate peace and strengthen security across the state.

In a personally signed statement on Tuesday, the governor said Kaduna is serving as the pilot state for the initiative, reflecting what he called national confidence in the state’s evolving security framework.

“In furtherance of our unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of our people, I had the privilege of inaugurating the Kaduna State Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) Peace and Security Committee,” he said.

Sani said his administration had, from inception, adopted a balanced security strategy combining kinetic operations with non-kinetic interventions under what he described as the Kaduna Peace Model.

According to him, the approach recognises insecurity as being driven not only by criminality but also by structural challenges such as poverty, exclusion and lack of economic opportunity.

He said collaboration with security institutions had produced measurable gains in recent months.

“Through sustained collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser, the National Counter Terrorism Centre, the Armed Forces, and other security agencies, we have recorded measurable progress,” he stated.

The governor added that intelligence coordination had improved significantly, while previously volatile areas, including the Kaduna–Abuja highway and Birnin Gwari axis, had become safer.

He also noted that economic activities were gradually rebounding, with markets reopening and farmers returning to their farmlands.

Sani said the state had received commendation from the National Counter Terrorism Centre for its peace framework, which he said was being considered a model for other states.

“The Kaduna Peace Model is worthy of emulation for its deliberate focus on addressing the underlying drivers of insecurity,” he quoted the Centre as saying through Ambassador Abimbola Wonosikou.

The governor said the newly inaugurated committee, chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdulkadir Muazu Meyare, would oversee rehabilitation, skills acquisition and reintegration programmes for individuals exiting violent activities.

He added that the committee also carries the responsibility of strengthening community trust and ensuring long-term stability across the state.

Sani expressed optimism that the initiative would help build a Kaduna where peace is sustained and security is shared by all citizens.
