President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major-General Adeyinka Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, in a move aimed at reinforcing Nigeria’s internal security coordination framework.
The appointment was formally announced on Monday through a circular issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and transmitted via the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr Ibrahim Kana.
According to the statement, the decision was informed by Fadewa’s extensive service history in the military, his strategic security background, and his long-standing involvement in strengthening the country’s security architecture.
The presidency explained that the appointment aligns with efforts by President Bola Tinubu to improve coordination among security institutions and enhance the government’s response to emerging threats across the country.
Reiterating the administration’s security priorities, Tinubu stressed the need for a more intelligence-driven approach and closer inter-agency cooperation in tackling insecurity and safeguarding citizens.
In his words, the President said: “This appointment is part of our broader commitment to building a more coordinated, efficient, and responsive national security system capable of addressing current and emerging challenges.”
The government further noted that strengthening collaboration among security agencies remains central to protecting communities, maintaining public order, and ensuring national stability.
