The Ogun State Police Command has ordered an immediate investigation into an incident involving students of the Ogun State Institute of Technology and officers attached to the Igbesa Divisional Headquarters.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, directed that a full-scale inquiry be carried out into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, has ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement said.
The command assured residents that the matter was receiving urgent attention and that proper procedures would be followed to determine what transpired.
“The Command assures the public that the matter is receiving prompt attention and that due process will be strictly followed to establish the facts,” it stated.
Police authorities also warned that any officer found culpable of misconduct would face disciplinary action in accordance with existing regulations.
“Where any misconduct is established, appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken in line with extant regulations,” the statement added.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, discipline and respect for the rights of all citizens, including students.
“The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to professionalism, discipline, and respect for the rights of all residents, including students,” it said.
It further appealed to students of the institution and the wider student community to remain peaceful and law-abiding while the investigation continues.
“Students of the institution and the wider student community are strongly urged to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while the investigation is ongoing,” the statement noted.
The police added that justice would be pursued without compromise and promised to make the outcome of the investigation public in due course.
