Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has described the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir as a moment of spiritual reflection and renewed commitment to faith, sacrifice, and national responsibility.
In a Wednesday statement, Atiku said the festival calls on Muslims and Nigerians at large to reaffirm their devotion to God and place absolute trust in His divine authority, especially at a time the country faces growing socio-economic challenges.
He lamented what he described as a growing disconnect between leaders and their responsibilities, noting that leadership in Nigeria has increasingly become “a status symbol” rather than a call to service.
According to him, the Eid celebration should serve as a reminder to those in authority that the welfare and interests of the people must remain paramount in governance and decision-making.
Atiku prayed that the spirit of sacrifice, faith, and compassion associated with Eid-el-Kabir would inspire national renewal and encourage more purposeful and people-centered leadership across the country.
