LASU warns students against malpractices as second semester exams begin

The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, has urged students of the institution to remain focused, uphold academic integrity and avoid examination malpractices as the second semester examinations for the 2025/2026 academic session commenced on Monday.

In a message addressed to students at the start of the examination period, Olatunji-Bello congratulated them on reaching what she described as an important milestone in the academic calendar.

She noted that the examinations represent more than an assessment of academic knowledge, describing them as an opportunity for students to demonstrate their growth, commitment and preparedness for the next stage of their academic journey.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, whether students are advancing to a higher level of study or nearing graduation, the examinations mark another significant step toward achieving their educational goals.

She encouraged students to approach the exercise with confidence and determination, urging them to prepare adequately, remain focused and manage their time effectively throughout the examination period.

“The examination period is a significant part of your journey at Lagos State University. It is not merely a test of what you have learned, but an opportunity to demonstrate your growth, commitment, and readiness for the next phase of your academic pursuit,” she said.

Olatunji-Bello expressed confidence in the students’ ability to excel, stating that the knowledge, training and support they received during the semester had prepared them for success.

The Vice-Chancellor, however, reiterated the university’s zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractices, warning that any form of misconduct would attract sanctions in line with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook.

“As you strive for excellence, I must also remind you that the University maintains a zero-tolerance policy on examination malpractices. Any form of misconduct will be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook. Let your success be built on honesty, hard work, and integrity,” she stated.

She also offered prayers and goodwill to the students, wishing them good health, clarity of mind and outstanding success in their examinations.

The second semester examinations for the 2025/2026 academic session began across the university on Monday, June 1, 2026. Olatunji-Bello expressed optimism that students would emerge successfully from the exercise, describing the institution as a community committed to excellence and greatness.
