A serious road traffic crash occurred in the vicinity of the Ikota School, Ajah, in Lagos on Thursday, rendering a driver and his passenger unconscious.
The accident involved a white Ford SUV with number plate KWL 574 CY and a fully occupied commercial mini-bus with number plate FST 207 YK.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said preliminary findings indicated that the driver of the Ford SUV, while allegedly travelling at a dangerously high speed, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the commercial mini-bus.
The resulting impact left the mini-bus extensively damaged. The bus driver, according to LASTMA, slipped into coma following the severe fracture to his right arm, while a passenger in the vehicle sustained intense nasal haemorrhaging and was rendered unconscious at the scene.
LASTMA officers were said to have responded with urgency, swiftly coordinating the evacuation of the victims to a nearby medical facility while securing the crash site to prevent further disruption to vehicular movement. Their efforts were supported by personnel from the Ajiwe Divisional Police Headquarters, who provided security reinforcement throughout the operation.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, underscored the grave dangers of reckless driving.
“Excessive speed remains a foremost contributor to fatal road incidents. Motorists are strongly advised to exercise prudence and prioritise life over haste,” he stated.
Bakare-Oki extended his sincere wishes for the swift recovery of the injured victims and reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to safeguarding lives through proactive traffic management and public safety advocacy.
