Minor jailed 9 months for stealing cellphone

A Jos Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday sentenced a 17-year-old boy to nine months imprisonment for stealing a cell phone.

The Magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos sentenced the minor, who pleaded guilty to theft.

Bokkos, in her judgment, gave the convict an option of a fine of N20,000.

She also ordered him to pay a compensation of N40,000.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported at the “B” Division Police Station on March 29 by one Friday Wilfred, the complainant.

Gokwat said the convict went to the complainant’s hotel room, stole the phone, and used it as collateral to get an N20,000 loan.

The prosecutor said that the offense contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
