Nigerian entertainer, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, aka Charly Boy on Thursday visited the Olamide Badoo Bus Stop, Lagos State.
Recall that the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) announced the renaming of several streets within the council.
The LCDA Chairman, Kolade Alabi, announced that Ajidagan Street has been renamed Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street, and the well-known Charly Boy Bus Stop is now Olamide Baddo Bus Stop.
The renaming of the Bus Stops, particularly, Charly Boy, sparked diverse controversies because the veteran singer is a vocal critic of the All Progressives Party and the Lagos State Government.
Earlier, Charly Boy reacted saying, “You can rename a place, but you can’t rename a legacy. You can replace the signboard, but you can’t erase the spirit. And you definitely can’t silence a voice that shook your tables for decades!
“This is not just about a bus stop. This is about fear. Fear of a boy who refused to bow. Fear of a man who challenged the oppressors. Fear of a man who didn’t beg the system to be accepted.”
In a recent video posted on his social media pages, the actor was seen filming the Bus Stop while some onlookers praised him.
Charly Boy said, “Well, guess where I am. Guess! Ehn! Olamide Badoo Bus Stop, that is what it’s called now.”
While in his car, passersby heaped praises on him saying they regard the Bus Stop as Charly Boy despite the change of name by the government.
One of his praisers said, “Nobody go change am,” while another said, “They don change am but we, we no go gree. Dey no fit, den no born them well,” amid several other voices.
