Presidency: Shehu Sani advises Jonathan against contesting in 2027

Former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani has advised former president Goodluck Jonathan against contesting the forthcoming 2027 presidential election.

Sani shared his reasons during a Sunday night interview on Channels Television stating that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which was used by Jonathan to win the election in 2011 is no longer united.

Sani advised the ex-president to jettison the idea of running for presidency come 2027.

He wondered if the former president intends to recontest, owing to the fact that his name always comes out whenever there is an election.

“But I advise him not to do that. The reason is very simple: the PDP he used to know is not the PDP now.

“The PDP in the South-West is endorsing the president. Some members of the party are in the coalition. So, it is the party he used to know so he shouldn’t waste his time,” he said.

Recall that Jonathan, who was Vice President to former late President Umaru Yar’adua for three years before his death, ascended to the presidency on May 6, 2010, till May 29, 2011, elected on the PDP platform and was in power till May 29, 2015.

The ex-Nigerian leader also re-contested in 2015 but lost to late Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
