The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited two top officials from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) for questioning over alleged financial irregularities linked to the 2025 hajj operations.

Aliu Abdulrazak, Commissioner of Policy, Personnel and Finance, and Aminu Y. Muhammed, Director of Finance and Accounts, were among those quizzed.

According to sources who spoke to Guardian, both officials have since left the EFCC’s custody after providing clarification on the allegations. NAHCON has distanced itself from the officials’ actions, emphasizing its commitment to transparency and cooperation with anti-graft agencies.

In a related development, a Lagos court has convicted and sentenced businessman Duru Ikechukwu Damian to three months’ imprisonment for failing to declare $49,000 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. The court also ordered the forfeiture of the undeclared funds to the Federal Government.

NAHCON’s leadership has assured the public that it will not shield any staff found guilty of misconduct, while also cautioning against media trials and unverified allegations. The EFCC’s investigation into the matter is ongoing
