The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four lawmakers for six months over an alleged attempt to impeach Speaker Aondona Dajoh.

The suspended members include Alfred Berger, representing Makurdi North and former House spokesperson, Terna Shimawua, representing Kian state constituency, Cyril Ekong, representing Obi state constituency, and James Umoru, representing Apa state constituency.

The suspension followed a motion by Majority Leader Saater Tiseer, who accused the lawmakers of attempting to unsettle the assembly with a “needless crisis”.

After the motion, the Speaker directed the Sergeant at Arms to escort the suspended lawmakers out of the chambers and appointed Audu Elias as the new House spokesperson, replacing Alfred Berger.
