The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed the death of two persons following the collapse of a three-storey building under construction on Friday night in the Yaba area of Lagos State.
According to the acting head of NEMA (Lagos Operations Office), Ibitayo Adenike, two male bodies were discovered on Saturday.
She told journalists during an interview, “So far, two dead bodies have been recovered, while four persons have been rescued and are currently receiving treatment.”
Noting that the search for more victims was still ongoing, Adenike could not ascertain the number of people still trapped under the rubble until the building was completely brought down to ground level.
She listed emergency responders at the scene to include the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Building and Control Agency, the Nigeria Police Force, among others.
