Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has presented ₦50 million to the Super Falcons ahead of their crucial Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 qualifier against the Amazons of the Benin Republic.
Governor Abiodun made the announcement in his Oke-Mosan office, Abeokuta, during a meeting with the team ahead of their WAFCON qualifier second leg match at Moshood Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta, scheduled for Tuesday.
Receiving the team, Abiodun said the Super Falcons’ return to Moshood Abiola Sports Arena shows Ogun State is on the right track, adding that the state government is poised to further develop the stadium environment with plans for a four or five-star hotel, cinema, shopping centre, among others.
Governor Abiodun congratulated the team on their 10th WAFCON title, saying their Morocco victory solidifies Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.
Abiodun said the Super Falcons’ efforts exemplify leadership, teamwork, and discipline, going beyond football to inspire others.
Earlier in his remarks, Head Coach of the team, Justin Madugu, acknowledged the reception, support, followership, concern, and care the team always receives anytime they are in Abeokuta.
Madugu said that the MKO Abiola Sports Arena has always made their job easy.
Speaking on behalf of the team, the captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, commended Governor Abiodun for his continuous support and for putting in place a beautiful facility.
Ajibade equally assured the governor that they would continue to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians by ensuring resounding victories anytime they put on the green and white jerseys of the country.
Nigeria are the defending champions of the WAFCON and defeated Benin Republic 0-2 in the first leg of the encounter.
The return leg is billed for Tuesday (today) with the winner picking a ticket for the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco.
