The Adamawa State Government has announced the cancellation of the December 31 “Cross Over Night” activities scheduled to hold at the Unity Flyover in Jimeta, Yola.

The decision was made citing security concerns, with the government assuring citizens that their safety remains a top priority.

Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Humwashi Wonosikou, in a statement issued on Wednesday maintained that the cancellation was in the interest of residents, adding that further updates would be provided as necessary.

“The Adamawa State Government has cancelled all activities planned for the Cross Over Night on Dec. 31, 2025, to Jan. 1, 2026, at the Unity Fly-Over in Jimeta, Yola.

“The safety and security of citizens remain our top priority. The government will continue to work with security agencies to ensure peace and stability in the state,” the statement said.

The government also called on citizens, especially residents of Yola North and South LGAs, to be extra cautious and steer clear of crowded spots.

“Avoid any potential risks and report any suspicious activities to the authorities,” the statement added.

The development comes shortly after the Lagos State Government announced the cancellation of the 2025 Greater Lagos Fiesta, which had been scheduled to hold on December 31.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, following the approval of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
According to the statement,

Sanwo-Olu directed that, in place of the annual Greater Lagos Fiesta—also known as the Countdown to 2026—residents should “spend quality time in personal prayers for the nation, the state and the people of Lagos.”

The governor further urged Lagosians to pray for “our continued prosperity, leadership, peace, productivity and our general well-being.”

While wishing residents well as the year draws to a close, Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism about the year ahead, wishing all Lagosians “a happy and prosperous year 2026,” and noting that the coming year “shows great promise for the state and Nigeria.”

The statement added that the governor also enjoined residents “to continue to live in peace and harmony.”
