The spokesperson of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has said that the coalition goes beyond unseating President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
The spokesperson, speaking on Arise TV on Thursday, stated that the coalition is their attempt to save Nigeria’s democracy.
Abdullahi argued that the country was heading towards a one-party system until the ADC coalition was formed to salvage the political structure of Nigeria.
Abdullahi said, “We need to take a broad approach to the conversation about the coalition. It has been described as an anti-Tinubu coalition, but it goes beyond that, it is not just about the president. It is more about saving Nigeria’s democracy.
“We have watched the last couple of months how almost all opposition parties have been decimated, willingly or unwillingly through internal sabotage or external forces. The most important thing for some of us is to ensure that we don’t have a single party. The coalition ADC is out to prevent such a situation where Nigerians will be presented with no alternatives, options and choice.”
He also likened the issue to the regime of Former Head of State, Sani Abacha, when all political parties endorsed him, adding that “it is why we’ve decided to come together to save Nigeria’s democracy”.
Additionally, the spokesperson vowed that ADC will give Nigerians a credible alternative in 2027 to tackle the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)
