The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a scathing attack on the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing the opposition party of being responsible for its ongoing internal crisis.
In a press statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party dismissed allegations by the ADC that the APC was working to destabilise it, insisting that the opposition party’s challenges were self-inflicted.
The APC described the ADC as “an assembly of Nigeria’s most confused and desperate politicians,” accusing it of promoting conspiracy theories about the ruling party.
“Quite apart from being an assembly of Nigeria’s most confused and desperate politicians, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has distinguished itself as a peddler of rabid conspiracy theories about what the All Progressives Congress (APC) is or is not doing to undermine the party,” the statement read.
The party further characterised the ADC as structurally flawed from inception, arguing that its current troubles were inevitable.
“The ADC is a party that never was. By design, it was a kamikaze contraption with a ‘follow-come’ self-destructive detonator. It had to unravel and now unraveling fast by installment,” Morka stated.
The APC also took aim at the factional leadership of the ADC, particularly the roles of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, accusing them of unlawfully taking control of the party in violation of its constitution.
“When its factional leadership under the duo of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola parachuted into the party like thoughtless and planless commandos, and hijacked the party in violent violation of its constitutional stipulations regarding leadership succession… the ADC set its own date with destiny,” the APC said.
Reacting to the recent decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to de-recognise the factional leadership led by Mark, the APC maintained that the move was lawful and justified.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission’s decision to de-recognize the factional David Mark-led executives in compliance with judgment of court is valid in law, justified in fact, and consistent with electoral policy and democratic practice,” the statement noted.
The ruling party criticised the ADC for blaming external forces for its internal disputes, describing such actions as irresponsible and evasive.
“It is therefore highly escapist and irresponsible for the ADC to blame the APC for its internal woes of which they are the sole architects,” Morka added.
According to the APC, the ADC’s inability to manage its internal affairs raises questions about its capacity to govern.
“A party that cannot fix itself cannot possibly fix Nigeria,” the statement said, adding that the opposition party was “bereft of ideas” and driven only by “vain desperation for power.”
The APC concluded by reaffirming its commitment to governance under President Bola Tinubu, stating that the administration remains focused on delivering its Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthening democratic institutions.
“Our great Party and the administration of President Bola Tinubu remain steadfast in delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda, and strengthening democratic institutions for peace, unity and prosperity of all Nigerians,” the statement added.
