Adelabu jetitions gov ambition, refuses to resign

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, may have abandoned his governorship ambition after refusing to resign from office in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive requiring all political appointees seeking elective positions to step down by March 31.

Adelabu, who has declared interest in contesting the Oyo State governorship election, was widely expected to comply with the directive before the deadline elapsed.

Earlier, a letter of resignation circulated online, claiming that the minister resigned to focus on his governorship ambition.

However, developments indicate that the minister has not resigned from his position, raising questions about his next political move.

When contacted by NEWSTELLERS on Tuesday, Adelabu’s media aide, Bolaji Tunji, dismissed reports suggesting that his principal had stepped down.

In response to enquiries, Tunji reportedly shared copies of the resignation letter that had been circulating online and boldly inscribed the word “fake” across the documents, insisting that the claims were untrue.

The aide’s reaction effectively confirmed that the minister remains in office despite the expiration of the deadline set by the presidency.

This has fueled speculation over whether Adelabu intends to abandon his governorship ambition or seek alternative political arrangements.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official communication from the presidency regarding compliance or possible consequences for appointees who failed to adhere to the directive.
