Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed appreciation for the endorsement of his administration by the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Osun State chapter, as well as organised labour, ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Adeleke described the show of support as “deeply humbling,” noting that it reflects growing confidence in his government’s policies on workers’ welfare and pension administration.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the living conditions of pensioners and workers through what he described as sustained reforms and people-focused governance.

His words, “Yesterday, I was deeply humbled by the overwhelming endorsement from the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Osun State Chapter, and the strong support of organized labour ahead of the August 15 gubernatorial election.”

The governor said his administration has prioritised the prompt payment of salaries and pensions, as well as the gradual settlement of inherited arrears left by previous administrations.

He also highlighted ongoing welfare initiatives, including the implementation of a ₦25,000 pension award, expanded access to healthcare services through the Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS), and other social intervention programmes aimed at restoring dignity to retirees and active workers.

According to him, these policies are designed to place citizens at the centre of governance while ensuring that both workers and pensioners receive deserved attention from the state government.

Adeleke commended pensioners and labour leaders for acknowledging what he described as the administration’s efforts in the sector, adding that their continued support reinforces the government’s reform agenda.

“Our administration remains committed to the welfare of pensioners and workers through prompt payment of salaries and pensions, settlement of inherited arrears, implementation of the ₦25,000 pension award, access to free healthcare through enrollment into Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS), and people-centered policies that restore dignity and hope,” the governor added.

He further pledged that his government would sustain its development blueprint, popularly referred to as the “Imole” continuity agenda, aimed at consolidating reforms in governance, labour relations, and social welfare.

“With Imole continuity agenda, we will build a better Osun where workers are respected, pensioners are cared for, and the people remain at the center of governance.”

The endorsement from pensioners and labour groups is seen as a significant political boost for the governor as preparations intensify ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
