Afenifere urges Senate, AGF to probe Natasha’s allegation against Akpabio

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has called on the Nigerian Senate and the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) to investigate allegations made by Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The group, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, on Thursday, said the allegation raised questions about Akpabio’s integrity and fitness to hold public office, urging the authorities to establish the truth in order to set the record straight and restore Nigeria’s image in the global community.

“We, at Afenifere, received the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s resolve to end a six-month suspension it placed on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over a proven breach of its Rules of Procedure with mixed feelings.

“For us, restoring her does not mean we should put all her claims behind us without subjecting them to judicial interpretation,” the group said.

Recall that Senator Natasha had accused the Senate President of sexual harassment. The Senate subsequently imposed a six-month suspension on her for violating its rules.

Following the expiration of her suspension, Natasha has returned to the Senate to resume her legislative duties.

Some months ago, Afenifere had urged that the truth of the matter be established.

With her return, the pan-Yoruba group is insisting that the AGF, Senate, and the country’s security agencies need to examine the matter thoroughly to uncover the real truth.
