AfroBasket victory: Tinubu gifts D’Tigress $100,000, flats, OON national honour

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honoured Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with a cash reward of $100,000 for each player, a flat each, and the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honour, following their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented Tinubu on Monday, commended the team for their exceptional performance and dedication, describing them as “worthy ambassadors of Nigeria.”

The team and their officials were hosted at the new banquet hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

They were warmly received by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, supported by the Wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima.

Also present at the event were the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Youth and Sports Development, Garba Maidoki; and the Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Kabiru Amadou.

D’Tigress recently clinched their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title, after defeating Mali 78–64 in the final held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, reaffirming their dominance in African women’s basketball.
