
No fewer than six residents of Agege, Lagos State were apprehended by the state government for illegal dumping of their refuse.
The development was made known by the Commissioner, the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab on his verified X account on Saturday.
According to Wahab, the team did a 15-hour surveillance operation to apprehend the suspects at Pen-cinema Agege and environs.
He identified the suspects as, Mrs Vera Titus, Mrs. Abiola Ayorinde, Mrs. Mojisola Yusuf, Mr. Qudri Babatunde, Mrs. Obi Mebel, Mr. Mustapha Abdullahi and Mr. Azeez Oluwatobi.
He wrote, “In response to the LAWMA Managing Director’s directive regarding a trending video on Instagram depicting illegal dumping at Pen-cinema Agege and environ, the LAWMA Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team initiated a comprehensive 15-hour surveillance operation at the location near the Agege Total Bus Stop along the Old Abeokuta Road in Agege on July 4, 2025.
“As a direct result of this operation, seven individuals were apprehended, and all identified blackspots were effectively sustained. The apprehended individuals have been transferred to the office of the CM of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), where they will remain in custody until Monday to facilitate the continuation of legal proceedings. The illegal dumping site has been completely neutralized.”
