The FCT Police Commissioner, CP Ajao Saka Adewale, has confirmed that Arise News correspondent Somtochukwu Maduagwu died after jumping from the top floor of her Katampe apartment during an armed robbery on Monday, September 29, 2025.

Somtochukwu, popularly known as Sommie, died in the early hours of Monday when armed robbers invaded her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja, the country’s capital.

Sommie and a private security guard attached to the residence lost their lives due to the armed robbery incident.

Speaking on Arise Television, Adewale said that after the gunmen shot one of the security guards during the incident, sparking panic among residents.

“To set the record straight, some armed robbers gained access into the apartment complex where Sommie lived — a three-storey, 18-flat building in Katampe under the Mabushi Division.

“At the time, two private security guards were on duty. One of them, who had the courage to challenge the intruders, sustained a gunshot injury. Understandably, panic set in.

“Sommie lived on the topmost floor of the building and, out of fear, she jumped down. Sadly, the consequences are what we are seeing today. It is so unfortunate.”

The CP explained that police officers arrived promptly after the distress call, but despite efforts at Maitama General Hospital, she could not be revived.

He further disclosed that a special investigation team, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation), has been set up to track down those responsible.

“The leads we are getting are already being worked on. No stone will be left unturned to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. The outcome of the investigation will be made public,” Adewale assured.
