Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Mr Peter Obi may be joining the Social Democratic Party soon, says Adewole Adebayo.
Adebayo, who was the presidential candidate of the SDP in 2023, said both men were already discussing with the party.
If the ongoing coalition works, Adebayo says the end might be on the way for the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Adebayo, who spoke on Channels Television’s ‘Sunday Politics’ programme, Adebayo said the team-up would retire President Bola Tinubu to Lagos.
Atiku ran on the platforms of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2023.
Both Obi and Atiku had been quoted as saying that they were ready to work together and defeat Tinubu and the APC in 2027.
To achieve this, the 2023 presidential candidate of the SDP said both Atiku and Obi were already negotiating with the SDP.
He said, “People are joining my party (SDP) and we are welcoming them. You can see how active I am in welcoming them,” he said.
“The only little issue we have with some of them is changing the culture, especially if they have not been in an environment where rules are taken seriously.
“Some of them are involved in boy scout-like activities and black market operations, but we are dealing with that. However, we welcome them into the party. We believe that they will strengthen the party.
“All these people you have mentioned; El-Rufai, Atiku Abubakar, and even former governor Peter Obi, are coming. A lot of people are coming, and we will welcome them.”
