Atiku resigns from PDP, gives reason

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has formally resigned his membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

This was contained in a letter he personal signed and addressed to the Chairman of PDP in Jada 1 Ward, Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Giving his reason for dumping the party, Atiku said the party has thrown out the founding principles of the party.

Atiku expressed deep gratitude for the opportunities granted to him by the PDP, reflecting on his years of service as Vice President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007 under the party’s platform and his two-time emergence as its presidential candidate.

He wrote, “I am writing to formally resign my membership from the People’s Democratic Party
(PDP) with immediate effect.”

Atiku continued, “As a founding father of this esteemed Party, it is indeed heartbreaking for me to make this decision.

“However, I find it necessary to part ways due to the current trajectory the Party has taken, which I believe diverges from the foundational principles we stood for. It is with a heavy heart that I resign, recognizing the irreconcilable differences that have emerged.”

He wished the party and its leadership “all the best in the future”.

The letter, which was submitted to the ward chairman, bears an acknowledgment stamp dated July 14, 2025, and was signed by Hamman Adama Abubakar, indicating official receipt at the PDP’s grassroots unit in Adamawa State.
