Atiku rules out exit from ADC

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has made it clear that the opposition coalition has no intention of leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Instead of exiting, the former presidential candidate chose to focus on resolving internal disputes and strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, Atiku emphasised that the coalition remains committed to the ADC despite overtures from other political parties offering alternative platforms.

He noted that the coalition had invested significant time and resources in building the movement around the ADC, describing it as a well-established structure that cannot be easily abandoned.

According to him, the immediate priority is to address internal challenges and ensure the party is fully prepared for future political engagements.

“This movement has been in place for over a year and a half, with extensive preparation already done. We are determined to see the judicial processes concluded quickly so we can continue with our political activities within the ADC,” Atiku said.

He further argued that many of the parties extending offers lack the organisational capacity and nationwide reach that the ADC currently provides, reinforcing the coalition’s decision to stay put.

His remarks come at a time when the party is grappling with internal leadership disputes, with ongoing legal proceedings expected to shape its structure and readiness as the next election cycle approaches.
