Bandits kill vice principal, kidnap 25 students In Kebbi raid

Tragedy has struck the Zuru Emirate in Kebbi State after armed bandits attacked Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, leaving the Vice Principal dead and 25 students missing.

The Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku, lost his life in the raid, sending shockwaves through the community.

The Kebbi State Police said the attack happened early on November 17, 2025, when heavily armed bandits swept into the school at around 4am, unleashing a barrage of gunfire.

Police tactical teams at the school exchanged gunfire with the attackers, but the bandits had already breached the school’s fence and abducted 25 students from their hostel, making off with them to an undisclosed location.

During the confrontation, Malam Hassan Makuku was shot dead, while another staff member, Ali Shehu, sustained gunshot injuries to his right hand.

Residents described the assault as terrifying and heartbreaking , withthe invasion plunging the entire community into fear and mourning.

An eyewitness revealed that the Vice Principal was gapped while shielding students from the attackers, a brave act that has left the community in mourning.

Prayers continue across the region for his soul, with many asking Allah to grant him mercy and comfort his bereaved family.

The Police Command says a joint team of police, military, and vigilantes has been deployed to track down the abductors and rescue the kidnapped students, vowing to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of ongoing operations.

Meanwhile, the Kebbi State Deputy Governor is already en route to the affected community on the directive of Governor Nasir Idris, who is currently away but has ordered swift action and full mobilization of security assets to ensure the safe return of the students.
