A medical doctor, Ere Ogbachi, has died following complications that developed after she delivered a set of triplets in Bayelsa State.
Her death was confirmed on Wednesday in a Facebook post by her brother, Meshack Sintei, who disclosed that she passed away at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, at about 2:45 a.m. on April 14, 2026.
According to the family, complications set in shortly after what was initially described as a successful delivery at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH), Okolobiri, prompting an emergency transfer to FMC Yenagoa for intensive care.
“She successfully gave birth to triplets at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri. Complications arose that eventually forced us to rush her to the Intensive Care Unit in FMC Yenagoa,” the family said.
They further recounted the efforts made by medical personnel to save her life at the ICU, noting that her condition deteriorated rapidly despite intervention.
“We watched her struggling to live, we watched her gasping for breath, we watched how the team of doctors and other experts in FMC kept trying their best to revive her,” the statement added.
The family also disclosed that her oxygen levels dropped sharply during the critical period.
“The SpO2 machine in the ICU began reading downwards from 70 to 50 and then to 0,” it said.
Her brother, Sintei, described her death as a devastating loss to the family, noting that she had just become a mother of triplets.
“It was a painful experience, my beloved sister died at exactly 2:45 am on April 14th 2026. A generation has been lost, and the Sintei family mourns,” he said.
He added that she “was a fighter to the end,” while appreciating friends, colleagues, and well-wishers for their support during the tragic period.
Until her death, Dr. Ogbachi was a medical practitioner, a registrar at NDUTH, a member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), an alumna of Niger Delta University, and a mother of triplets.
