Bello Isiyaku not our party chairman, Sokoto ADC insists

Members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State have insisted that Bello Isiyaku is not the party’s chairman.

According to the ADC State Secretary, Yusuf Abdulkadir Alkali, during a press conference held at the NUJ press centre in Sokoto on Sunday, Isiyaku had been suspended before the 2023 general elections and therefore could not claim the chairmanship of the party.

The secretary said Isiyaku created rancour within the party, leading to his suspension when he contested for the office of governor under the ADC platform during the last general elections.

He stressed that Umar Muhammad Faruk was appointed as the substantive ADC Chairman for the state by the national leadership of the party, under Ralph Nwosu during the party’s national convention in Zaria, in September 2022.

“At our recent meeting attended by 25 members of the state executive, 18 voted in support of Hon. Umar Muhammad Faruk, reaffirming him as the authentic chairman of the ADC in Sokoto State,” Alkali stated.

Accusing some party elders of attempting to smuggle Isiyaku back into the leadership structure, Alkali stressed that the Sokoto State chapter remains loyal to Hon. Umar Muhammad Faruk and will resist any attempt to undermine the decision of the national leadership.

“The state exco has unanimously resolved to reject Bello Isiyaku’s leadership claim and reaffirm our loyalty and support to Hon. Umar Muhammad Faruk,” Alkali concluded.

On August 25, 2025, the Kebbi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress suspended members of its leadership over allegations of misconduct, financial mismanagement and poor leadership.

The State Publicity Secretary, Jamilu Muhammad, announced the suspension of the party chairman, Sufiyanu Bala, Deputy Chairman, Junaidu Muhammed Mudi, and Secretary, Hawwa’u Muhammed, at a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.

According to him, the action followed extensive consultations with party stakeholders.

Muhammad accused the trio of diverting party funds for personal use, taking unilateral decisions without the State Working Committee’s consent, and failing to uphold transparency, accountability, and party unity.
