Benue govt retrieves Yaman Park from private operators

The Benue State Government has repossessed the popular Yaman Park in Makurdi, the state capital, from private operators.

This was revealed on Saturday by Dr Raymond Amokahaa, Managing Director of the Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC).

He said Yaman Park was taken back on behalf of the Benue State Government, reiterating BIPC’s mandate to manage and protect all state-owned properties.

Amokahaa explained that the recovery followed Edict No. 10 of 1995, which transferred all assets of the defunct Benue Housing Agency to BIPC, thereby vesting the company with full responsibility for the management, protection, and recovery of Benue State landed properties from encroachers and trespassers, particularly those used for criminal purposes.

He said the action was in line with BIPC’s statutory duty to reclaim government properties unlawfully occupied and ensure their optimal use for the benefit of the state.

Amokahaa noted that the recovery of Yaman Park underscores the state government’s resolve to restore order in land administration and protect public assets from illegal takeover.

He added that BIPC would continue to identify, secure, and recover all government-owned properties across the state in accordance with the law.

Amokahaa warned individuals and groups occupying government land without authorisation to vacate such properties, stressing that BIPC would not hesitate to take lawful steps to reclaim them.

“The recovery of Yaman Park is expected to pave the way for its proper redevelopment and utilisation in line with the vision of Gov Hyacinth Alia’s investment and urban renewal plans,” he said.
