As the nation grapples with the resurgence of violent extremism in the North East region, Senator Ali Ndume has condemned the recent bomb attack in Borno State, describing the heinous act as “barbaric” and an affront to humanity.

The Senator representing Borno South, in a statement on Tuesday, described the incident as “barbaric, inhumane, and a direct assault on innocent citizens,” particularly given that it targeted densely populated areas.

The senator, presently in Saudi Arabia for Umrah, lamented the attack, conveying heartfelt sympathies to Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, families of the victims, and patients undergoing treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).

“I cannot begin to imagine the pain and burden on our Governor at this moment. This is a deeply heartbreaking situation for him and for all of us. May Allah grant us comfort, strength, and healing,” Ndume said.

He also commended the swift response of security agencies and called for intensified efforts to prevent further attacks.

The senator urged residents across the state to remain vigilant, particularly as the Eid celebrations approach.

“I urge all residents, not only in Maiduguri but across Borno State, particularly in Borno South, to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. We must not let our guard down at this critical time,” he added.

Ndume concluded by praying for the repose of the souls of the deceased, speedy recovery for the injured, and lasting peace in Borno State and Nigeria.

The explosions, which occurred around the Monday Market axis and near the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, reportedly claimed several lives and left many others injured.

The blasts detonated at about 7:02 p.m. on Monday, with emergency responders deployed to the scene. The Federal Fire Service confirmed that its personnel were mobilised to assess the situation.
