A former Chief of Staff to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, has stated that the former leader was a different person to different people.
In his description of the late Nigerian leader, Gambari, on Monday said Buhari died as a fulfilled man, saying that he attained the highest level of his personal, professional and political career.
“People are free to give their opinion. I’ve known the late Muhammadu Buhari for over 41 years. He was a fulfilled man at both the personal, professional, and political levels. He was a good man and did his best for the country,” the former Minister of Foreign Affairs said on Channels TV.
“As always, there were different perspectives as to whether or not he met the expectations of people, or whether he fulfilled what he promised as a leader. But on balance and very objectively, he did very well for this country. He loved this country. He was very proud to be Nigerian,” he added.
He also highlighted the career of the deceased in the military and politics saying, “He rose to be a General of the Nigerian Army. He was also Head of State in the military government from 1983 to 1985.
“And then politically, which was not his terrain, he still was one of only two Nigerians who had been military heads of state and later succeeded in being elected President of Nigeria—and even got a second term.”
Gambari said Buhari was “a good man”, who “did his best for the country”, adding that he worked closely with the late Nigerian leader and ended the last three years of his administration as his Chief of Staff.
